This page explains how Auckland Tourism Guide earns money, which links are paid, and what that means for what you read here. It is the detail behind the one-line notice at the top of every guide.

The short version

This site contains advertising. Our booking links are routed through a partner that adds commission tracking automatically, so if you book through one we earn a commission from the provider, at no extra cost to you. It never affects what we recommend.

How this site is funded

We work with Stay22, a booking partner that handles the accommodation and activity links on this site. When you follow one of those links and make a booking, the provider pays us a small commission. The price you pay is the same either way.

Stay22 rewrites those links as the page loads rather than at the time a guide is written. That means we cannot list the monetised links individually, which is why the notice at the top of each guide is unconditional: assume a booking link may earn us a commission.

Nothing on this site is a paid placement. We are not paid to include a hotel, a restaurant or an attraction, and no partner sees an article before it is published. Where we recommend something, it is because we think it is worth your time. Unsolicited guest posts, link-building offers and sponsored-content proposals are declined.

What this means for your data

Our booking partner, Stay22, runs a script on this site that rewrites booking links and identifies your device so a booking can be credited to us. It does this using characteristics of your browser and device rather than a cookie, and it stores an identifier in your browser’s local storage. Because it sets no cookie, blocking third-party cookies does not stop it — refusing marketing cookies in the cookie settings does, and the script is then never loaded. Refusing does not limit what you can read here.
